Metallizing and Protective Coatings of America, Inc., more commonly
known as MPCA, has been a leader in field applied coatings to the
cogeneration market. Our firm has completed 72 cogeneration proj-
ects in seventeen states since 1998. From a coatings aspect, cogeneration plants
present a multitude of challenges. These projects are schedule driven and the
work priority must coincide with hydro, chemical cleaning and “First Fire”. The
coatings contractor must have properly trained crews to apply not just atmospher-
ic coatings, but tank linings and secondary containment for concrete. Make-up
and Fire Water tanks are lined with Amine Epoxy; Demineralized Water tanks
with Epoxy Phenolic; and Condensate and Neutralization tanks with flake filled
Vinyl Ester. Concrete coatings run the full spectrum from Epoxy Novalac to dou-
ble reinforced Vinyl Ester. Atmospheric coatings are epoxy/urethane on ambient
surfaces while HRSG’s and stacks receive zinc and silicone acrylic. Blowdown,
drain and vent systems receive special attention due to a 100 degree to 1200
degree F fluctuations that can occur in less that 10 seconds. The current power
market is shifting to coal and MPCA has several ongoing coal projects and will
continue to focus on this market. Along with power, we continue our strong
presence in the Pipeline, LNG and Marine Industries. In affiliation with our sub-
sidiary, Apache Industrial Painting, we can offer thirty acres with 150,000 feet
under roof to serve OEM’s and fabricators with shop facilities for fireproofing and
